The Women of Hajipur Continue the Legacy… Creating Timeless Madhubani Arts with Love

From Village Hands to Global Homes

An year ago on Women’s Day  March 8, 2024, a new chapter started in a small town of Hajipur, Bihar. It was on this day that MG SocialCare Foundation initiated a Madhubani Art Training program — an initiative under its skill training goals to empower deprived people by providing them with traditional, income-generating skills.

What began as a modest training program has grown into a flourishing network of women artists who now propagate the rich tradition of Madhubani painting — an age-old folk art form that captures the cultural essence of Bihar.

    Empowerment Through Art

These women, some of whom had never even held a brush in their hands before, are today confident creators of beautiful, Madhubani artworks. With every brush stroke of natural pigment and every curve of symbolism, they are painting — they are preserving heritage, speaking stories, and regaining their economic independence.

From Canvas to Craft: A Range of Handmade Items

Today, the artistic talent of Haipur’s women has spread far and wide beyond paintings on canvas. They are now making all kinds of handmade Madhubani products, such as:

    • Sarees and blouse pieces
    • Dupattas
    • Wooden trays
    • Coasters
    • Gift items
    • and, of course, original Madhubani paintings on paper and fabric

Every item is exclusive, carrying with it the uniqueness and richness that Madhubani paintings are famous for — with motifs of nature, mythology, and everyday village life.
